The PHP Foundation

The PHP Foundation is a collective of people and organizations that rely on the PHP programming language. Its mission is to secure PHP’s long-term prosperity by supporting the developers and community that maintain and advance it. The foundation funds and guides core developers working on high-quality maintenance, security improvements, and new features approved through PHP’s community RFC process.

Its work extends beyond code. Foundation-supported developers file and triage issues, review contributions, participate in mailing-list discussions, propose features, write documentation, maintain project infrastructure, fix bugs, and implement improvements. The organization also promotes PHP, helps improve onboarding for new users, encourages accessibility and inclusion, and represents PHP’s interests in open-source policy discussions and partnerships.

The PHP Foundation brings together sponsors, members, developers, and community representatives, and invites organizations benefiting from PHP to support its work. It shares updates through news articles, talks, impact reports, and a newsletter. Through these activities, the foundation helps sustain the language’s development and the wider ecosystem built around it.
