The Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) is a public body established to protect the health, safety, and wellbeing of patients and the public by regulating pharmacists and pharmacies in Ireland. As the pharmacy regulator, the PSI sets the standard for pharmacists’ education and training and creates the standards and supports to promote good professional practice in pharmacy. They register pharmacists, pharmaceutical assistants, and pharmacies, carry out inspections of pharmacies, and take action when there is a concern about a pharmacist or a pharmacy, including when they receive a complaint from a member of the public.
The PSI's principal function is to ensure patient safety and public protection, by setting standards for pharmacy education, ensuring compliance with pharmacy and medicines laws, and responding to complaints about the competence and conduct of pharmacists and pharmacy owners. They work to provide advice, support, and guidance to the public, the pharmacy profession, and the Government on pharmacy care, treatment, and service in Ireland. Governed by a 21-member Council, the PSI is committed to carrying out their work independently, ethically, and transparently, with a focus on serving the public and working in partnership with stakeholders to achieve their objectives.
