The Purbeck Marathon is a volunteer-run trail running event based in Swanage, Dorset, bringing runners to the Jurassic Coast since 2012. After a five-year pause, it returns in 2026, with race day scheduled for 20 September. The event offers two challenging routes through dramatic coastal scenery, rolling countryside and historic landmarks, including views of Old Harry’s Rocks and Corfe Castle.
The Purbeck Marathon covers 26. 67 miles, while the Purbeck 16 covers 16. 9 miles and includes one fewer major hill climb.
Both races follow public footpaths and feature rugged terrain; the marathon has a 7-hour-and-11-minute cutoff. Entry prices are listed from £50 for the marathon and £40 for the Purbeck 16, before applicable fees. The event presents running as a community experience, supported by volunteer marshals and local supporters.
All profits from entries are donated to three local charity partners: Planet Purbeck, Dementia Friendly Purbeck and St Edward’s Corfe Castle. Runners can find race information, entry forms, results, event updates and course details through the event’s website
