Therapeutic Riding

Prince George Therapeutic Riding Association (PGTRA) is a charitable organization established in 1992 by local parents and children. Based in Prince George, British Columbia, it provides therapeutic and recreational horseback riding experiences for children and adults with disabilities. Its mission is to empower participants by focusing on their abilities and offering a safe, nurturing environment with high standards of safety and instruction.

PGTRA’s programs are designed to support physical, mental, and emotional well-being while encouraging personal growth and inclusion. Therapeutic riding can help participants build confidence, body awareness, strength, and flexibility. The association also offers dressage riding, which promotes balance, focus, and achievement, and cart driving, which supports coordination, motor control, problem-solving, and teamwork. Sessions are delivered by certified instructors with the support of dedicated volunteers.

The organization welcomes riders, volunteers, and community supporters. Donations and sponsorships—including horse, rider, and event sponsorship—help sustain lessons and expand its facilities and programs. PGTRA’s work brings people and horses together in a community centered on respect, safety, positivity, and shared growth.
