About the Savannah Country Club
Savannah Country Club, located in Savannah, GA, has a rich history dating back to the early 1920s when it was founded by Henry C. Walthour. Originally established as a high-quality community on Wilmington Island, the club featured the General Oglethorpe Hotel as its prime amenity, complete with a golf course designed by Donald Ross, renowned golf course architect.
Despite changes in ownership and periods of closure, the golf course remained open and popular throughout the years. In 1965, William Lattimore purchased the property and renovated the golf course to PGA standards with the help of architect William C. Byrd.
Renamed as the Savannah Inn and Country Club, and later the Sheraton Hotel, the property eventually became luxury condominiums known as 'Wilmington Plantation,' with the golf course operating independently as the Wilmington Island Club. In 2018, new owners O. C.
and Brianna Welch rebranded the club as the Savannah Country Club, combining a rich sense of history with a contemporary approach to dining and events. With its remarkable design and fascinating past, Savannah Country Club continues to be a beloved destination for golf enthusiasts
