About The Shippey Campaign
The Shippey Campaign, founded by lifelong football enthusiasts Kate and Peter Shippey MBE, is a pioneering charity dedicated to enhancing the matchday experience for families affected by sensory difficulties. Inspired by their three children diagnosed with autism, the Shippeys innovated the concept of Sensory Viewing Rooms in sports stadia, launching their first facility at Sunderland AFC in 2015. This groundbreaking initiative enables fans with sensory needs to enjoy live sports in a calming environment, complete with specialized sensory equipment.
The campaign's origin story began when their son Nathan faced overwhelming challenges at a football match, sparking the need for a supportive space. Since then, the Shippey Campaign has successfully advocated for sensory rooms in several clubs, including Notts County and Watford FC, and continues to promote awareness across the UK and beyond. Committed to their mission, Kate and Peter offer guidance and support to other facilities, striving to make sports accessible for all. Through their efforts, they aim to help families create memorable experiences at sporting events.
