The Sunshine Stop

The Sunshine Stop is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Excelsior, Minnesota, dedicated to empowering people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through meaningful, paid employment. In a small shop environment, the organization offers part-time summer jobs and hands-on training for its employees, known as the Sunshine Squad. Participants build practical skills in money and time management, problem solving, and communication, supporting greater independence, confidence, and connection with their community.

The Sunshine Stop works with local businesses and community partners to create employment opportunities and bring its products to market. Its activities also include community events, volunteering, sponsorships, partnerships, and an online store. Donations help fund essential operations, pay employees fair wages, and support a purposeful, welcoming experience for employees, volunteers, and the wider community. The organization invites families to apply for employment opportunities and encourages supporters to contribute, attend events, shop, volunteer, or spread the word. Through its programs and community relationships, The Sunshine Stop aims to create opportunities, strengthen local connections, and share a positive spirit.
