About The World
The Crooked House pub, a lopsided 18th-century establishment in England, has recently been demolished, sparking outrage and shedding light on the loss of British heritage and pub culture. Known for its tilted structure, the pub was a popular spot where customers jokingly felt tipsy just by stepping inside. Unfortunately, an unexplained fire engulfed the premises, and two days later, it was demolished without planning permission, leading to an ongoing investigation by the police.
This incident has further emphasized the destruction of historic pubs in the UK, with residents and campaigners urging the government to introduce laws for their preservation. The Crooked House's unique features, such as doors leaning in different directions, tilted windows, and a seemingly grandparent clock, attracted visitors for years. However, years of mining had caused the building to slip, resulting in its eventual sale and subsequent destruction.
Activists are now advocating to rebuild the beloved pub as an exact replica. The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has highlighted that numerous pubs across Britain have faced similar fates, with a significant number being demolished or converted without planning permission. There is a growing demand for greater penalties and personal prosecutions for developers who destroy these establishments.
Additionally, the ties between large breweries and local pubs have hindered their survival, limiting the variety of beverages they can offer. To combat these issues, campaigners are calling for changes in the law, including marketing bars over 50 years old as pubs at an independently valued price for the first 12 months of sale. The preservation of the UK's renowned pub culture is essential, and taking steps to protect these establishments will ensure the continuation of a cherished British tradition
