About Þjóðminjasafn Íslands
Keldur at Rangárvellir is a historic gem offering a glimpse into Iceland's past. Open daily from June 1 to August 31, visitors can explore the oldest existing turf farm in Iceland. Step back in time and experience how Icelanders lived for centuries in turf houses, showcasing traditional Icelandic architecture seamlessly blending with the natural landscape.
The turf farm at Keldur, one of the largest preserved in south Iceland, features a characteristic Roman-style wooden frame and an intriguing underground tunnel dating back to the 12th or 13th century. Guided tours at 11 am and 3 pm, included in the ticket price, provide in-depth insights into this historical treasure. With ticket prices at 2,500 ISK (1,200 ISK for seniors and students, free for children under 18), a visit to Keldur also grants access to the National Museum of Iceland in Reykjavík.
