Thomas Foundation Second Chance Horse Rescue is an equine rescue organization founded by Kim Thomas in 2011. Based in Texas, the foundation provides sanctuary to horses and other equine facing abuse, neglect, dangerous conditions, or the threat of auction and slaughter. Its work focuses on restoring the animals’ health, confidence, and dignity through rescue, rehabilitation, and, when appropriate, retraining.
The foundation cares for a herd of more than 80 equine, providing essentials such as shelter, veterinary attention, farrier care, hay, and grain. Rather than advertising horses for adoption, the organization carefully matches them with vetted and approved forever homes. Adopters sign a no-rehome or resale agreement, and horses must be returned to the foundation if their homes can no longer care for them. The organization also helps network equine to safety and keeps bonded animals together whenever possible. Thomas Foundation welcomes donations to support its ongoing care and has expressed plans to offer educational programs that introduce people to its herd and the connection between humans and equine.
