Thrive Hout Bay

Thrive Hout Bay is a non-profit, community-based organisation working in Hout Bay, Cape Town. It brings communities together through environmental awareness and practical projects that promote sustainable living, protect local natural resources, and support community wellbeing. Guided by values including respect, compassion, integrity, inclusivity, and responsibility, Thrive aims to help people make a positive difference in their communities while preserving South Africa’s diverse cultural and environmental heritage.

The organisation delivers two main programs. Its Sustainable Schools Program educates learners and young people about environmental sustainability and involves them in activities to reduce waste and conserve resources. Its Sustainable Communities Program works with community members, when invited, to revive local practices that support environmental care. Related initiatives include EnviroAudit, EnviroArt, local food projects, biodiversity preservation, sustainable schools, and sustainable communities.

Thrive’s mission focuses on growing food, minimising waste, protecting biodiversity, reducing water pollution and wastage, and conserving energy. It also encourages public participation through volunteering and financial donations.
