Tierfreunde Lesbos

Tierfreunde Lesbos e. V. is a German animal-welfare organisation focused on helping dogs and cats on the Greek island of Lesbos.

Its work has included caring for abandoned, stray and vulnerable animals, providing a safe shelter and medical care, and helping them find permanent homes. The organisation has shared information about animals available for adoption, including dogs needing special attention, and guided prospective adopters through the placement process. It has also offered opportunities to become a foster carer, meet animals during a visit to Lesbos, sponsor an animal, volunteer locally, become a member or make a donation.

Cats are described as receiving food and care through a local contact, with most living outdoors. In an update dated 26 October 2026, the organisation stated that all animals had moved to Germany and its shelter was empty, ending the chapter under German management. The site says a Greek animal-welfare group may take over the property, while the organisation’s future will be decided by a new board
