About The Newnan Times-Herald
The Newnan Times has a rich history dating back to its first issue published on September 9, 1865, making it the first post-Civil War newspaper in Georgia. Founded by attorneys J. S.
Bigby and J. C. Wootten, The Newnan Herald was a four-page weekly that quickly gained popularity.
Over the years, the newspaper underwent several changes, including mergers and name changes, but its commitment to delivering informative and insightful news remained constant. Notably, James E. Brown served as editor for four decades, known for his brilliant editorials.
Today, The Newnan Times is owned and operated by Billy Thomasson, with his daughter, Beth, and her husband, Clay, serving as co-publishers. The newspaper continues to provide comprehensive coverage of local news, state events, sports, and opinion pieces, ensuring that the residents of Newnan and beyond have access to reliable and engaging news
