TIRA

Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) is the United Republic of Tanzania’s government authority responsible for regulating and strengthening the insurance sector. Its mission is to develop, promote, and maintain an inclusive, efficient, fair, safe, and stable insurance system for the benefit and protection of insurance beneficiaries. TIRA’s vision is to become a world-class regulator that fosters an efficient and sustainable insurance system.

Rather than selling insurance products directly, TIRA oversees the sector and supports its development. Its work includes maintaining a regulatory framework, engaging with licensed entities, and providing information through news, announcements, press releases, events, publications, and public education. The authority also offers online services and portals, including an insurance regulatory information system and an online registration system. TIRA is led by a Commissioner of Insurance and a Deputy Commissioner, and operates through specialized departments and units. It emphasizes professionalism, customer centricity, teamwork, integrity, accountability, and transparency.
