Tiroler Umweltanwaltschaft

The Tiroler Umweltanwaltschaft is an independent institution of the Province of Tyrol, Austria, dedicated to representing the interests of nature and the environment. Its work aims to protect the region’s natural heritage, reduce environmental impacts and support quality of life for residents. The organisation participates in environmental matters and legal proceedings, including assessments of projects that may affect landscapes, habitats and waterways. It also develops position papers, criteria and goals to encourage forward-looking, resource-conscious solutions that are compatible with nature.

Beyond advocacy, the Tiroler Umweltanwaltschaft provides guidance and information to the public. Its website offers opportunities to arrange a consultation, report concerns, subscribe to a newsletter, listen to a podcast and access nature identification resources. Education is another part of its work, with initiatives, training and events focused on environmental awareness. Projects include community-created habitats and a competence centre addressing light pollution and the night sky. The organisation also shares frequently asked questions, publishes biennial activity reports and supports nature-focused cultural initiatives, including the Innsbruck Nature Film Festival.
