About TIS National
The Australian Department of Home Affairs, located in Canberra ACT, offers a range of services to migrants and humanitarian entrants through their Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP). This program provides up to 510 hours of free English language tuition to eligible individuals, helping them develop essential language and settlement skills. By participating in the AMEP, migrants can improve their English proficiency and integrate more fully into Australian society.
The program equips participants with the necessary skills to work, make friends, and successfully navigate life in Australia. Free childcare is available for children under school age, making it easier for parents to attend classes. Additionally, for migrants receiving Centrelink payments, learning English through the AMEP may fulfill their mutual obligation requirements.
The department has made improvements to increase access for eligible migrants, including allowing unlimited English classes until vocational English proficiency is achieved.
