It turns an internet-connected smartphone into a virtual scoreboard, tracking serves and points with a visual display and audio cues. Players can invite an opponent to start a game, with no app download required; tivit works through a browser on iOS, Android, Windows, and other internet-connected devices.
The service also lets users create custom leaderboards for any number of players. Games can be set to 11 or 21 points, with configurable first-service rules. Its ELO-based ranking system updates players’ scores according to the match result and the leaderboard positions of the opponents. Accounts are created with an email address, and the web app is currently available in beta.
tivit was developed to provide an easy-to-set-up scoring alternative after the team’s earlier hardware-based approach presented reliability challenges. Players can use a hands-free phone holder or place their device on a nearby surface.
