TJ’s Gift Foundation is a Winnipeg-based registered charity created after the 2003 murder of T. J. Wiebe, with a mission to help young people choose to be drug free.
The foundation supports projects in which youth help their peers avoid drug involvement and make healthy choices. Its programs reach students through school presentations, concerts, conferences, awards and educational resources. Karen Wiebe, T.
J. ’s mother, shares her family’s story and speaks to schools and organizations; school presentations are offered free, with donations appreciated. Rockin’ for Choices brings bands and messages about drug-free living to students in grades 7–12, while the Battle of the Bands encourages high school musicians to promote drug awareness.
The Soaring Eagles Conference equips students from remote communities with tools to become leaders and mentors. TJ’s Gift also funds student-led school projects, provides curriculum links and teacher resources, and recognizes youth, volunteers and organizations through its Champion Awards. Its children’s book, Little One, was written and illustrated by students to support children affected by addiction at home
