The purpose of Te Kahu o Taonui was to create a taumata for our Te Tai Tokerau Iwi Chairs to come together, to wānanga, share ideas and concerns with each other and to utilise the power of our collective Iwi to create more opportunities to benefit all of our whānau, hapū and Marae. About Te Kahu o Taonui
Te Kahu o Taonui is a prominent brand established in 2006/7, comprising a collective of twelve Iwi in Te Tai Tokerau. This collective represents Ngāti Kuri, Te Aupōuri, Te Rarawa, Ngai Takoto, Ngāti Kahu, Kahukuraariki, Whaingaroa, Ngāti Wai, Te Roroa, Ngāti Whātua, Ngāpuhi, and Ngāti Hine. Te Kahu o Taonui operates within a comprehensive framework consisting of four Pou, each representing a different aspect of the Iwi collectives' mission and values.
The first Pou, Pou Tīkanga, focuses on strategic relationships and Te Mana Whakahono Ā Rohe. The second Pou, Pou Tangata, emphasizes health, well-being, and housing solutions such as Tamariki Ora and Whai Kainga. The third Pou, Pou Taiao, centers around environmental policies, sustainability, and kai sovereignty.
The fourth Pou, Pou Tahua, prioritizes connectivity, infrastructure, and workforce development. Te Kahu o Taonui is dedicated to collaborating with whānau, hapū, and Iwi, aiming to progress opportunities that benefit the community.
