The Leon County Humane Society (LCHS), established in 1960, is Tallahassee’s premier non-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to "Rescue, Rehabilitate & Educate." With a mission to create a kinder community for both people and their pets, LCHS rescues approximately 1,000 animals annually, prioritizing those at risk of euthanasia. Their innovative approach includes a foster-based Dog Program, ensuring that many underage kittens and special needs animals receive the care they require in nurturing environments.

In addition to facilitating adoptions, LCHS offers essential resources such as a Pet Food Pantry, spay/neuter assistance, and a Pet Behavior Library aimed at promoting responsible pet ownership. Community education programs further empower pet owners and enhance the relationship between families and their furry companions. Volunteers and foster parents play a vital role in supporting LCHS's mission. As a recognized partner of larger animal welfare organizations, LCHS is committed to making a significant impact on animal lives in the community.
