About Tennessee Highway Safety Office
The Tennessee Traffic Safety Resource Service, also known as the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO), is a division of the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security committed to advocating for traffic safety. Working in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the THSO implements statewide programs focused on occupant protection, impaired driving, speed enforcement, pedestrian and bicycle safety, as well as crash data collection and analysis. All programs administered by the THSO are fully federally funded.
The mission of the THSO is to reduce traffic fatalities in Tennessee, aligning with the nation's vision of Toward Zero Deaths. To achieve this goal, the THSO emphasizes driver behavior change through increased education, enforcement, and community partnerships. The THSO provides various resources and training opportunities for law enforcement personnel and offers campaigns and initiatives aimed at reducing distracted driving, speeding, and promoting seat belt and motorcycle safety.
