The Tohoku University Aikido Club, established in 1961 by Professor Yoshizo Miyakawa, has a rich history rooted in martial arts excellence and community spirit. Professor Miyakawa, deeply inspired by the founder of Aikido during his time at Manchuria's Kokushikan University, envisioned a club that would provide students with meaningful engagement through martial arts. With a dedicated team of instructors, including prominent figures from the Aikido community, the club has grown significantly, boasting over 100 members at its peak.

The club offers comprehensive Aikido training sessions that focus on both physical techniques and philosophical teachings. They host numerous workshops and events, including successful performances that have drawn attention and respect within the martial arts community. Despite fluctuations in membership over the years, the Tohoku University Aikido Club remains active, fostering a welcoming environment for students of all skill levels to learn and practice Aikido, while also promoting camaraderie, discipline, and respect among practitioners.
