Toivontupa

Joutsan Päiväkeskusyhdistys ry is a Finnish association founded in 1990 to provide community-based support and substance-use prevention. Working from a Christian foundation and in cooperation with local congregations, the association aims to offer residents a welcoming, substance-free place to meet, build everyday life skills and support recovery. Its activities are primarily intended for people recovering from substance use or mental health challenges, as well as people experiencing loneliness or unemployment, though everyone is welcome.

At its day centre in the Kuntala building, visitors can spend time with others, talk informally and, when needed, arrange individual conversations. The centre encourages meaningful daily activity, peer support and companionship. The association also operates Toivontupa’s flea market at Länsitie 3, with opening information shared on its website, Facebook page and at the shop. In addition, it serves as a collection point for laundry sent to Järvipesula in Sysmä, which collects and returns customers’ cleaned clothes. The association also participates in preventive substance-use work with municipal social and healthcare services.
