Tokenstead is an information and tooling platform for people who want to run AI on hardware they own. Its focus is open models, local AI, and practical ways to compare running models privately with using cloud services. The site offers a tracked catalog of open-weight models, hardware specifications, and community benchmarks, alongside a source-cited directory showing which models organizations and individuals use.

Visitors can explore hardware builds at different budgets, compare rigs, and check which models their existing or planned hardware can run. A calculator estimates tokens per second and API costs, while guides and news cover local AI, hardware, models, and agent tools. Tokenstead also curates AI tooling, including agent harnesses, autonomous agents, business and marketing AI, workspaces, and monitoring tools. Users can save hardware profiles, publish shareable profiles of their rigs and benchmarks, and browse other community builds. The platform further offers a free weekly AI digest, personalized model-fit information, and an option to request a managed private AI rig.
