About TopoScout
TopoScout is a free, browser-based topographic mapping tool for exploring terrain and planning or editing routes. Designed to work on mobile devices, it helps users build routes along real roads and trails, reshape GPX tracks, and investigate elevation and slope conditions. Users can search an area for its highest points, identify steep climbs, measure ascent, and generate slope maps.
GPX routes can be displayed with elevation profiles, distance labels, waypoints, and points of interest; tracks can be edited and downloaded as GPX files. The map includes selectable layers such as OpenTopoMap, OpenStreetMap, terrain and satellite views, plus hiking, cycling, mountain biking, skating, and path overlays. Optional tools include 3D terrain, hillshade, contour lines, GPS-related information, and route synchronization with the elevation profile.
TopoScout runs directly in the browser, and the site states that searches and data are not saved on a server, except for GPX files uploaded when an optional backend is used. Users can also install it for an app-like home-screen experience
