The Topsfield Historical Society is a volunteer-run organization dedicated to studying, preserving, and sharing the history of Topsfield, Massachusetts, as well as the Commonwealth and the United States. With more than 100 years of history and over 400 members in 18 states, the Society welcomes residents and others interested in local heritage. Its activities include monthly talks on subjects ranging from colonial slavery and women’s history to notable historical figures, along with educational programs for local schools and children.
The Society supports historical research through scholarships, lectures, publications, and access to historical collections. It also cares for the 1683 Parson Capen House, offering private tours by request, and operates the restored Gould Barn as a community meeting and event venue available for rental. Each June, it sponsors the Strawberry Festival, featuring local nonprofit organizations, history exhibits, and craftspeople.
The Society collaborates with libraries, town offices, educational institutions, and cultural organizations to promote preservation and community engagement. Membership, volunteer opportunities, events, and historical resources are available through the Society
