TorontoMet Formula Racing

Toronto Metropolitan Formula Racing (TMFR) is Toronto Metropolitan University’s student design team, bringing together students from engineering, business, arts, and other faculties to design, build, and race formula-style open-wheel cars. The team competes in domestic and international events, including Formula SAE Michigan, where it faces more than 100 university teams. Its current vehicle development focuses on an electric racecar, with reliability, safety, drivability, and serviceability among its priorities.

TMFR offers students hands-on opportunities to apply classroom learning, develop technical and collaborative skills, and contribute to a shared engineering project. Members work together across vehicle design, manufacturing, testing, and competition, while building experience in communication, accountability, and leadership. The team also welcomes new members and invites companies and organizations to explore sponsorship and strategic partnership opportunities.

At Formula SAE events, TMFR’s work is assessed through dynamic challenges such as acceleration, skidpad, autocross, endurance, and efficiency, as well as static presentations covering engineering design, cost analysis, and business planning.
