TOTE FUNKEN

KG Tote Funken e.V. is a young, nonprofit carnival association in Cologne, founded in 2015 by 13 members of a longstanding circle of friends. Inspired by the appearance of a “Urfunk” in a worn traditional guard uniform, the group formed to take part in the carnival season together. Today, the association brings members together through friendship, humor, community spirit, and a love of Cologne and its carnival traditions.

Tote Funken approaches the city’s carnival with an independent, playful perspective. Its name and outlook allow the group to poke gentle fun at established conventions while paying tribute to the traditional societies that help sustain Cologne carnival. The association also champions tolerance, openness, and equality, welcoming people regardless of their background, skin color, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. Its activities center on celebrating carnival, enjoying fellowship, and keeping local customs alive with a distinctive sense of fun.
