EMBRC is a research infrastructure that accelerates marine biology and ecology research in Europe. Through a network of 80+ marine sites in Europe, we provide access to marine biodiversity and ecosystems, and services and expertise in marine science to help researchers from academia and industry study the ocean and speed up discoveries. Our work helps to develop innovative solutions for the environment and the sustainable blue bioeconomy. EMBRC fills gaps in ocean observation data through EMO BON (European Marine Omics Biodiversity Observation Network). Part of the UN Ocean Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (OBON programme), this EMBRC’s initiative is the first coordinated long-term genomic biodiversity observatory in Europe that studies marine life using DNA techniques. In the face of global environmental challenges, EMBRC supports science-based decision-making and biodiversity management policies for a sustainable future. The organisation operates under the legal status of a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC), granted by the European Commission.

TRACE is a premier initiative under the European Marine Biological Resource Centre, dedicated to cataloging the diverse array of marine biological resources. This extensive database encompasses living organisms such as model animals, macroalgae, microorganisms, and their associated cultures. TRACE facilitates access to various fixed or frozen biological samples, alongside resources readily collectable from their natural habitats.
Users can explore the TRACE database to find detailed information about specific marine biological resources, including their origin and availability through participating marine stations. The platform is designed to enable both onsite and remote access for researchers and institutions, streamlining the process of acquiring essential marine biological specimens for study and experimentation. With affiliations to notable institutions such as Vigo University and the Station Biologique de Roscoff, TRACE stands as a crucial resource for scientists, educators, and conservationists alike, promoting innovative research and fostering collaboration within the marine biological community
