About TraceToForge
TraceToForge is a web-based design tool that helps makers turn photos of their tools into custom-fit inserts for workshops and storage systems. Users start with a top-down photo, inspect and adjust the traced outline, set dimensions and tolerances, and preview the design before exporting it. The editor offers four modes: a 3D object, a custom tray with tool cavities, a Gridfinity insert, or a flat gasket template for SVG or DXF cutting. Designs can include multiple tools, repositioned or cloned shapes, finger notches, and beveled cavity openings. Exports are prepared for workshop projects, including 3D printing workflows; tracing and previewing are free, while exports use credits.
Users can save tool shapes in a personal library or browse community-shared traces for a starting point. The editor also includes measured templates for selected Milwaukee PACKOUT, Milwaukee SHOCKWAVE, and DeWalt ToughSystem 2.0 boxes. TraceToForge provides practical guides on photographing tools, planning inserts, and reusing saved traces, helping users develop designs for their workspace.
