About Trans Health Project
The Trans Health Project (THP) is a community-centered research project focused on addressing HIV-related syndemic barriers faced by Black and Latina transgender women in San Diego County. Its mission is to support these communities and improve access to the HIV care people need and deserve, while challenging the social and environmental conditions that can worsen health outcomes, including racism, transphobia, substance use, violence, and poverty.
Led by Black and Latina trans women, THP is guided by a collaborative that brings together community leaders, community members, service providers, and researchers. The group meets monthly to analyze data, develop program components, and plan how initiatives will be implemented, evaluated, and sustained. Its approach centers the experiences of Black and Latina trans women and is grounded in the principle βfor us, by us.β
THP works with UCSD Health and The Center, as well as trans- and queer-led community organizations, including Proyecto TransLatina, TransFronteras, San Diego Black Pride, and the T-Spot.
