Trauma Research Foundation

The Trauma Research Foundation (TRF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting and growing a community of clinicians, researchers, educators, and people affected by trauma. Its work aims to expand the field of trauma treatment through research, education, increased awareness, and improved access. Under the leadership of Bessel van der Kolk, MD, and Licia Sky, the foundation advances research and innovation in understanding and treating trauma.

TRF offers professional learning opportunities, including the year-long Traumatic Stress Studies Certificate Program, which covers how trauma affects the brain and body and explores clinical treatment approaches. Its programs also include neurofeedback training, mind-body practice for working with trauma, and training in Integrated Attachment Family Therapy. The foundation convenes the annual Boston Trauma Conference, connecting clinical experience with science and research, and provides resources such as scientific publications, interviews, a blog, and a somatic library. Through donations, educational programs, research initiatives, and community-building, TRF works to make trauma-informed knowledge and treatment more accessible.
