About TreasuryDirect
The Bureau of the Fiscal Service is a government agency that offers a range of financial products and services. One of their main offerings is U. S.
Savings Bonds, which allow individuals to lend money to the U. S. These bonds are backed by the full faith and credit of the U.
S. There are two types of U. S.
Savings Bonds available: EE Bonds and I Bonds. EE Bonds guarantee to double in value in 20 years and earn a fixed rate of interest. I Bonds, on the other hand, protect against inflation by offering a fixed rate of interest as well as a rate based on inflation.
Both types of bonds can be purchased electronically through the TreasuryDirect account, with a minimum investment of $25. They can be cashed in after one year, although cashing in before five years results in the loss of three months of interest. The Bureau of the Fiscal Service also provides resources and support for managing savings bonds, including a bond calculator and instructions for cashing in paper bonds
