About Tree of the Year
Tree of the Year is a prestigious contest that celebrates remarkable trees across Europe, promoting environmental awareness and appreciation for nature. Launched in 2011, this contest builds upon the successful model of a similar event in the Czech Republic. The initiative, organized by the Environmental Partnership Association, has expanded significantly from its initial five participating countries to sixteen in recent years. Through its engaging platform, Tree of the Year invites individuals to explore the fascinating stories of diverse finalists, including ancient oaks, iconic lime trees, and unique specimens like the King Oak from Ireland and the Great Plane of Tata in Hungary. Encouraging public participation, the contest elevates local heritage while emphasizing the importance of conservation.
