Tortoise is an influential Chicago-born music group whose five members are Dan Bitney, John Herndon, Douglas McCombs, John McEntire, and Jeff Parker. Known for a sound that resists easy categorization, the band draws on instrumental rock, jazz ambience, post-punk, electronic music, and other styles, blending them through a collaborative, egalitarian approach to songwriting. Their music ranges from the dusky, intricate textures of landmark albums Millions Now Living Will Never Die and TNT to the bold, stylistically varied compositions of Touch, their first new album since 2016.
Released through International Anthem and Nonesuch Records, Touch is available in vinyl, CD, and digital formats, with streaming release dates also announced. The group supports its recordings with live performances and international tours, including scheduled dates across North America, Asia, and Europe. Tortoise also offers official merchandise through its online store, with worldwide shipping from the United States and Europe.
With a broad musical influence and a continuing commitment to experimentation, the band brings together diverse traditions without being confined to any one genre
