TRUESOIL is a collaborative research project focused on understanding how soil management can support climate-smart agriculture. Its work assesses the mitigation potential of key soil organic carbon (SOC) management practices under current and future climates, while examining how changes in soil carbon stocks interact with greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Rather than treating carbon storage in isolation, TRUESOIL investigates the trade-offs that can affect the climate benefits of agricultural soil management.
The project explores factors influencing organic carbon storage and GHG emissions, evaluates agricultural emissions across different soils and climates, and studies how drought affects SOC accumulation and GHG fluxes. Its activities also include biogeochemical modeling, with workshops that provide early-career researchers with foundational knowledge and hands-on model training. TRUESOIL shares findings through research publications, data and repository resources, newsletters, posters, and scientific events, including sessions at the EGU General Assembly. As a project associated with EJP SOIL, it brings together partners and stakeholders to advance understanding of soil processes and inform agricultural management choices.
