At TupuToa, our vision is to grow Māori and Pacific leaders for a greater Aotearoa. Our journey started in 2016 with 28 Māori and Pacific interns studying at tertiary level who were placed within various corporate roles in Auckland. We now anticipate an intern cohort of 350+ across Aotearoa and abroad, within corporate, government and community organisations. Māori and Pacific peoples make up a quarter of our population and yet are largely invisible in corporate New Zealand. This is more pronounced in corporate leadership. Only 17 per cent of New Zealand’s top 60 firms have an executive who identifies as other than European/Pākehā. This lopsided demographic creates a knowledge gap, deprives businesses of the benefits of diversity, and inhibits business growth. Our programmes aim to address the persistent inequalities facing our communities and disrupt intergenerational disadvantage. We work to reduce entry and advancement barriers which are biased against Māori and Pacific communities and support organisations in successfully recruiting and onboarding Māori and Pacific peoples.

About TupuToa
TupuToa | Auckland is a brand committed to addressing the underrepresentation of Māori and Pacific peoples in corporate leadership positions. Despite comprising a significant portion of New Zealand's population, these communities are often invisible in corporate New Zealand, particularly in leadership roles. TupuToa aims to bridge this gap by reducing entry and advancement barriers biased against Māori and Pacific communities.
Their programmes focus on developing and empowering individuals from these communities, while also building the cultural capability of their partnering organizations. By doing so, they seek to ensure that corporate Aotearoa - New Zealand's corporate sector - is truly representative of its diverse population. TupuToa envisions a future where individuals and businesses thrive and grow, with strong connections to their ancestors and heritage.
The brand's name itself carries the meaning of flourishing and courage, highlighting their commitment to empowering individuals and driving positive change. With a range of programmes such as the Cyber-security Programme, Internship Programme & Grad roles, Kia Tupu, Kia Toa, Salesforce Bootcamp, and Tū Kahikatea, TupuToa is actively working towards creating opportunities and disrupting intergenerational disadvantage
