Turbines & Tumbleweeds is a public radio-control turbine jet event and airshow held at historic Avenger Field in Sweetwater, Texas. Launched in 2024 as a joint initiative of the City of Sweetwater and the Abilene RC Society, the event brings RC jet pilots together to fly and share their enthusiasm for high-end model aviation in the wide-open skies of West Texas. It is also a community gathering, inviting visitors to enjoy flying, food, and the region’s aviation heritage.

The four-day event features RC turbine jet flying at a full-scale airfield, with Saturday open to the public for a free airshow, a flightline walk, spectator voting for favorite aircraft, concessions, and food trucks. Activities also include public raffle drawings, a chance to win a ride in a vintage WWII aircraft, a pilot raffle, and awards recognizing aircraft such as sport and scale jets. Visitors can tour the National WASP Museum, located at the historic field where Women Air Service Pilots trained during World War II.
