Turbulent Hydro

Turbulent is a renewable energy company developing low-head hydroelectric turbines for rivers and canals. Its technology is designed to make hydropower practical in locations where conventional systems may not be viable, bringing clean, reliable and affordable electricity to remote communities, businesses and regional power grids. A single Vortex Turbine can generate 15 to 90 kW continuously, using a water height difference as low as 1.5 metres and a flow of 1.5 cubic metres per second. Turbines can operate individually or in clusters that produce multiple megawatts.

The company supports projects from site assessment through development, using GIS tools to identify promising locations and working with a growing network of local and international partners. Turbulent also seeks qualified companies to join its global franchise network. Its Living Rivers™ approach aims to reduce environmental impact while benefiting waterways and nearby communities. Sustainability initiatives include fish-friendly design, zero-CO2-emission energy, local training and technology transfer.
