Turun Miekkailijat

Turun Miekkailijat, also known as Åbo Fäktare, is a fencing club in Turku, Finland, offering regular training for children, young people and adults. The club runs beginner courses twice a year, in spring and autumn, for children aged 7–11, teenagers and adults aged 16 and over, as well as veterans aged 60 and over. Courses introduce the fundamentals of fencing, including movement, technique and bouts, with loan equipment provided; no previous experience is required. After completing the introductory course, participants can progress to further instruction and the club’s regular coached groups.

Six groups train on weekdays, with sessions led by experienced coaches. The club aims to provide varied, enjoyable and safe sport for people of different skill levels, and offers a pathway from recreational participation to competition. It also provides fencing taster sessions, private lessons and venue-and-instructor bookings for celebrations and corporate events. Turun Miekkailijat holds the Finnish Olympic Committee’s Tähtiseura quality designation for children’s and youth sport and adult activities.
