Type Foundry

Type Foundry Directory is an independent reference for exploring and comparing type foundries around the world. Its directory features 394 foundries, with profiles that bring together information about each foundry’s background, location, supported writing systems, and licensing. Visitors can browse entries in grid or list views, sort or shuffle results, and use filters to narrow the directory by criteria such as country, language support, licensing model, and font features.

The directory also documents practical details that help designers and buyers assess font offerings, including desktop, web, and app licensing metrics; self-hosted webfont availability; trial fonts; variable font support; modification permissions; and whether social media or logo use is included. Some profiles link to foundry websites and social channels, while others note platforms, student discounts, or additional licensing guidance. The project explains its documentation methodologies and flags areas where information is incomplete or still being developed. By consolidating these details in one searchable resource, Type Foundry Directory helps users discover foundries and make informed comparisons when selecting typefaces and licenses.
