National Antarctic Scientific Center 🇺🇦

The National Antarctic Scientific Center (NASC) is a Ukrainian governmental research institution established in 1993 under the Ministry of Education and Science. The center is dedicated to coordinating and conducting scientific expeditions to the Ukrainian Antarctic station "Academician Vernadsky," which is pivotal in numerous scientific studies comprising earth sciences, life sciences, and physical sciences in Antarctica.

As part of its commitment to environmental integrity, NASC actively minimizes anthropogenic impacts while pursuing groundbreaking research, including ecological DNA studies and microbiological investigations of Antarctic soils. The center comprises a diverse team of experienced polar researchers and emerging scientists, with over 350 participants involved in winter expeditions as of 2023.

NASC also engages in international collaboration by representing Ukraine at annual Antarctic Treaty meetings and contributes to the modernization of the "Academician Vernadsky" station since 2019. Alongside its scientific endeavors, NASC promotes Antarctic research through competitions, lectures, and public exhibitions, thus fostering a greater understanding of polar science within the wider community.
