UAMS Health

UAMS Caregiving is a community-focused program of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), providing training and educational resources for caregivers, older adults, and local communities. Through the UAMS Schmieding Caregiver Training Program, participants can develop the skills needed to pursue certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant. The program also supports family caregivers who provide unpaid care to older adults at home, offering free workshops and educational opportunities.

UAMS Caregiving provides free respite training for volunteer respite providers, caregivers, and community and faith-based groups. Its range of free educational programs for seniors is designed to promote healthy living. A program calendar helps visitors find activities and training in El Dorado, Fort Smith, Jonesboro, Pine Bluff, Springdale, and Texarkana. The site also connects people with ways to become a caregiver, donate to the program, volunteer, and explore UAMS Centers on Aging. As part of UAMS, the program draws on the university’s health and education mission to serve caregivers and older adults across Arkansas.
