The Uber-Tailgater is a Notre Dame football tailgating tradition created and hosted by Marc Wolnitzek, known as “the Admiral. ” For more than 20 years, the event brought friends and family together before games, with supporters helping prepare food, bake, and set up the gathering. The site shares the history of the Uber, including past invitations, photographs, location information, and media coverage.
It notes that the last true Uber took place during Notre Dame’s 2021 game against Cincinnati. Tailgating traditions have continued in other forms: the Cincinnati Club Bus Trip tailgate still meets at the former Uber location in the Joyce Lot, while the Admiral is generally found near pole 14 in the Stadium Lot on game days. The site also features the Admiral’s appearance in a 1998 adidas Notre Dame football commercial and a podcast conversation about Notre Dame football and tailgating, hosted by Anthony “Tank” Mansfield with longtime friend Brendan O’Connor.
Overall, Uber-Tailgater documents a personal, community-centered part of Notre Dame game-day culture
