Ubuntu Pathways (formerly Ubuntu Education Fund) is a nonprofit organization that provides an integrated support system of health, education, and social support in the townships of Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Ubuntu Pathways breaks the cycle of poverty by providing South Africa's most vulnerable children with what all children deserve—everything, every day. Founded in 1999 by Jacob Lief and Malizole “Banks” Gwaxula, Ubuntu Pathways has become an internationally-recognized model for development. Our impact is made possible by trusting those closest to the problem to create the solution. Today, 95% of the team at the Ubuntu Campus in Port Elizabeth, South Africa comes from the community we serve. These staff members are leaders in their community, driving the vision of one of the most innovative organizations on the continent.

About Ubuntu Pathways
Ubuntu Pathways is a nonprofit organization that is committed to supporting vulnerable children in their journey out of poverty. Operating in the townships of Gqeberha, South Africa, Ubuntu Pathways provides a comprehensive system of health, education, and social support to create lasting transformations in the lives of these children. With a focus on depth rather than breadth, Ubuntu Pathways has redefined traditional development models by trusting those closest to the problem to devise the solutions.
What began as a fortuitous meeting between two strangers, Jacob Lief and Malizole 'Banks' Gwaxula, has blossomed into an internationally-recognized blueprint for community transformation. Through partnerships with the Bertha Foundation and other organizations, Ubuntu Pathways has created a world-class staff development initiative, with 95% of its team now comprised of leaders from the community they serve. Ubuntu Pathways measures success through university graduates rather than the distribution of textbooks, using an on-track/off-track assessment framework developed in collaboration with McKinsey & Company.
By focusing on long-term outcomes and maintaining accountability, Ubuntu Pathways ensures that its impact is sustainable and genuinely helps children break free from the cycle of poverty
