Ucrainica Research Institute is a charitable non-profit organization focused on education and research about issues affecting the Ukrainian Canadian community within the framework of multiculturalism. Through its projects, publications, and events, the institute explores Ukrainian history and its connections with Canada, while making research accessible to broader audiences.
Its work includes the Baturyn archaeological project in Ukraine’s Chernihiv province, which investigates the history of the city that served as the capital of the Cossack Hetmanate. The institute has also played a leading role in developing “Holodomor: Genocide by Famine,” described as the first comprehensive English-language exhibit on the man-made famine in Ukraine in 1932–33. Other research addresses European history, including the First and Second World Wars and the interwar and postwar periods in relation to Canada, and has supported the book “A Canadian Hero.”
The institute shares historical findings through articles and project materials, including research on archaeological discoveries, cultural heritage, and significant figures such as Hetman Ivan Mazepa.
