About がまだすドーム
The Unzen Disaster Memorial Hall, known as 'Gamadasu Dome,' is located in Shimabara City, Nagasaki Prefecture. This pioneering volcanic museum serves as a powerful educational platform that conveys the lessons learned from the 1990 eruption of Mount Unzen, which tragically caused significant destruction and loss of life. Opened in a site created from volcanic debris, the museum features interactive exhibits, including the "Children's Geo-Park," designed to engage visitors of all ages in understanding the dynamics of Earth and the allure of the Unzen volcano.
Gamadasu Dome goes beyond just showcasing the disaster; it symbolizes resilience and recovery, reflecting the local dialect meaning 'to persevere.' The museum aims to promote awareness of volcanic phenomena, offer educational resources on disaster preparedness, and foster regional revitalization. As a UNESCO-recognized Geopark since 2009, it also plays a crucial role in sharing the unique charms of the Shimabara Peninsula with the world. Visitors can explore a range of facilities, including permanent exhibitions, a café, and a shop, creating a holistic learning experience.
