United Flying Octogenarians (UFO) is a worldwide organization for experienced pilots who continue flying into their later years. Founded in 1982, it has grown from a small group to around 1,700 members. Full members are age 80 or older and have acted as a certificated pilot in command on or after their 80th birthday. UFO promotes longevity, aviation safety and fellowship among senior pilots, represents their interests, and aims to inspire young people to fly.
The organization offers full membership, an Auxiliary Wing for active pilots aged 75 to 79, and a pathway for eligible Auxiliary Wing members to advance to full membership. Members can connect through gatherings, local hosts, an online membership directory and an events calendar featuring aviation events around the world. UFO also shares photos, articles and reports through its monthly newsletter. Its website provides membership information and renewal services, member profiles, event listings, and a shop selling items such as hats, pins and gift cards. Donations support the organization’s work.
