About ufugi-yambaru.com
Yambaru World Heritage Conservation Center, also known as Ufugi Nature Museum, is an educational facility in Kunigami Village, Okinawa, dedicated to helping visitors learn about the natural environment of Yambaru. The region, in northern Okinawa Island, includes areas designated as Yambaru National Park and forms part of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage property inscribed in 2021 as “Amami-Oshima, Tokunoshima, Northern part of Okinawa Island, and Iriomote Island.”
The center provides information about the World Heritage listing and Yambaru’s nature, alongside visitor guidance and educational resources. Its website also shares updates, event information, and reports on wildlife roadkill, including records involving the Okinawa rail and Ryukyu long-haired rat. Visitors can find guidance on what to do if they encounter injured or dead wildlife, and schools and other groups can arrange visits in advance.
Located at 263-1 Hiji, Kunigami Village, the facility is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is a 300-yen cooperation fee for visitors aged 13 and over.
