Aadhaar

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is a statutory authority established by the Government of India under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Created under the Aadhaar Act in 2016, UIDAI is responsible for issuing Aadhaar, a verifiable 12-digit identification number, to residents of India and overseeing the systems that support it.

UIDAI provides services for Aadhaar enrolment, updates, verification and secure access. Residents can download e-Aadhaar, update eligible details such as their address or mobile number, check request status, order a PVC card, retrieve a lost number and lock or unlock biometrics. Its Aadhaar mobile app offers services including mobile number and address updates, authentication-history checks, credential sharing and request tracking. UIDAI also provides document guidance, centre locations, help resources and grievance support.

For organisations, UIDAI offers an enrolment and authentication ecosystem, a developer sandbox for building and testing Aadhaar-enabled applications, and opportunities to join its OVSE partner ecosystem. Through these public services and technical resources, UIDAI supports identity verification and Aadhaar-related services across India.
